Family Dollar
This summer, approximately 210 workers will be moving from Family Dollar’s existing headquarters in Matthews, NC to the new Dollar Tree headquarters in Chesapeake, VA. Nearly 30% of the existing Family Dollar headquarter employees who were offered positions will be making the move to Chesapeake. “We have begun the important phase of consolidating our store support centers into our Chesapeake campus, which will improve our ability to support Family Dollar stores through enhanced collaboration, communication and teamwork,” Dollar Tree CEO Gary Philbin said in a statement.
Walmart
Walmart is another major retailer who’s getting a new headquarters.
On May 17, 2019 Dan Bartlett, Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs announced plans for a new corporate campus. The new Walmart Home Office will be in Bentonville on roughly 350 acres of land on the east side of J Street, between Central Avenue and 14th Street (Highway 102). For years, the company has operated warehouse spaces and office buildings on this site, but these will be demolished for the new campus.
Demolition, infrastructure and utility construction will begin this Summer. In the next 18 24 months, the support and office buildings will be designed, and construction will begin. Their goal is to open in phases between 2020 and 2024. Walmart’s sustainability goals for the new campus are in line with their three corporate aspirational goals: to create zero waste, operate with 100% renewable energy and focus on products that sustain resources and the environment.
